Smyrna, GA.: Fall Protection has become one of the most misunderstood and underutilized safety controls in the light commercial and residential building industry.  Much of the difficulty is in training.  Many workers in these fields are primarily Spanish speakers.  These workers are proficient at their craft but lack a true understanding of the dangers associated with working at higher altitudes.  Most companies only provide safety instruction in English.  This leads to a lack of true understanding of the safety rules in the field.

Padgett Risk Consultants provides real classroom training to all workers in every field and provides it in Spanish when workers are in need.  Fall Protection classroom training is required by OSHA for all workers and crews who will be doing work over six feet from the surface below.  The classes are held for private companies at their facility or in the PRC classroom.  In this case, Luiza Montecelle with Real Siding asked Padgett Risk if they could provide the Spanish Fall Protection course.  The worker interest grew to the point that a larger facility was needed.  This is where Lansing Building Products stepped up and provided a wonderful training room and provided breakfast and refreshment for the workers.

David Brewster with Lansing Building Products was asked about the class.  He stated that “We are actively seeking solutions for our clients and their workers.  Safety instruction is a great way to share knowledge and build relationships with workers in the field.”  It was a wonderful course and attendees were very thankful for specific instruction in all areas of Fall Protection, Scaffolding, and Ladder usage.
